What Makes a Superhost an Event Professional?

Having achieved Superhost status shortly after going full-time as a host back in 2016, I have often wondered if my past as an Event Manager had to do anything with this. Well that, and just always being the friend or family member that adored planning and hosting even the smallest of gatherings.

As it turns out these two seemingly distinct roles have emerged as an unexpectedly perfect pairing! While they may appear unrelated, these roles share a wealth of skills, knowledge, and experiences that, when combined, helped me create a unique and enriching guest experience. In this blog post, we'll explore how the qualities of an Airbnb Superhost and an Event Manager Professional harmonize to deliver exceptional benefits to their clientele.

1. Exceptional Communication Skills

Both Airbnb Superhosts and Event Manager Professionals are adept at communicating effectively with their clients. Superhosts excel at addressing guests' needs, responding promptly to inquiries, and ensuring a seamless stay. Similarly, Event Managers must keep open lines of communication with clients, vendors, and participants to orchestrate successful events. The ability to understand and fulfill individual preferences is a common strength shared by both roles, and for accented by my training as a Body Language and Life Coach.

2. Personalization and Customization

An Airbnb Superhost's expertise lies in curating personalized experiences for their guests. They anticipate their guests' needs and preferences, creating a tailored environment. Event Manager Professionals also thrive on personalization, as they craft events that align with the client's vision, incorporating unique elements to make the occasion truly memorable.

3. Attention to Detail

Both roles require a meticulous eye for detail. Superhosts ensure that accommodations are immaculate, well-stocked, and comfortable. Event Managers meticulously plan every aspect of an event, from seating arrangements to decor, to ensure that every detail contributes to the overall success and ambiance of the occasion.

4. Problem-Solving Abilities

Unforeseen challenges can arise in both the world of Airbnb hosting and event management. Superhosts are skilled at swiftly addressing issues such as maintenance concerns or guest requests. Event Manager Professionals excel at navigating unexpected situations during events, ensuring minimal disruptions and keeping the event on track. Both roles force me to plan for the unexpected (better to “prevent than react” is my motto!), and have back up to the back-up plans!

5. Creating Memorable Experiences

Both Superhosts and Event Managers aim to create memorable experiences for their clients. Superhosts aim to make guests feel welcome and comfortable, leaving a positive impression. Event Managers craft experiences that align with the event's purpose and the client's expectations, ensuring that attendees leave with lasting memories.

6. Time Management

In the hospitality industry and event management, time is of the essence. Airbnb Superhosts must manage check-in and check-out timings efficiently, while Event Managers orchestrate events according to precise schedules. This shared skill ensures a well-structured and enjoyable experience for all involved.

I have found that effective and clear communication with my guests and/or clients helps with time management.

7. Flexibility and Adaptability

Both roles require adaptability to accommodate changing circumstances. Superhosts may need to adjust to last-minute bookings or guest preferences, while Event Managers must adapt to unforeseen weather conditions or modifications in the event's schedule.

8. Client-Centric Approach

Above all, both Airbnb Superhosts and Event Managers are committed to a client-centric approach. They prioritize the needs and desires of their clients, aiming to exceed expectations and provide exceptional service.

In conclusion, the synergy between being an Airbnb Superhost and an Event Manager Professional is undeniable. The skills and qualities these roles share enhance the overall client experience, creating a seamless blend of hospitality, personalization, and meticulous planning. Whether hosting guests for a weekend getaway or orchestrating a grand event, the combination of these roles ensures a truly exceptional and unforgettable experience for clients.

I hope you come for a visit and allow me to shower you with the goodness of my love for hospitality - so you can experience first hand what an Airbnb stay should feel like!
